High-tensile strut with knife-edge or built-in end at the top; pinned or restrained end at the bottom. Top supported with sliding piston in linear bushing. Bottom support pivoted on ball bearings with right angle restraining bar with variable degree of restraining. Load is applied by a lever mechanism. Lateral loading by weight hanger and pulley. Eccentricity by shifting knife-edge away from the center line of the test specimen. Dial gauge to measure deflection. Requires the universal test frame.
